Throne of Blood
THURSDAY, APRIL 3 AT 7:30PM
Don’t miss Akira Kurosawa’s thrilling 1957 epic Throne of Blood on the big screen in 35mm! Co-presented with The Loft Cinema as a part of The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre’s MacFestival, a celebration of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and its myriad reimaginings, running March 6 – April 27!
A vivid, visceral Macbeth adaptation, Throne of Blood, directed by the legendary Akira Kurosawa, sets Shakespeare’s definitive tale of ambition and duplicity in a ghostly, fog-enshrouded landscape in feudal Japan. As a hardened warrior who rises savagely to power, Toshiro Mifune gives a remarkable, animalistic performance, matched by Isuzu Yamada as his ruthlessly scheming wife. Dark, thrilling and wildly entertaining, Throne of Blood fuses classical Western tragedy with formal elements taken from Noh theater to create an unforgettable cinematic experience. (Dir. by Akira Kurosawa, 1957, Japan, in Japanese with English subtitles, 109 mins., Not Rated)
THIS PERFORMANCE WILL BE SHOWN AT THE LOFT CINEMA
