Tucson Puppet Cabaret

Runs December 6-8, 2024

Join us for the fourth annual Tucson Puppet Cabaret. Enjoy a variety of vignettes for adults performed by musicians, actors, and puppeteers. Be prepared to laugh, reflect, shed a few tears, ponder the uncertainty of existence… and laugh some more!

The cabaret is a weekend of curated short-form puppetry acts intended for adult audiences. The Tucson Puppet Cabaret is part of a global PUPPET SLAM NETWORK  sponsored in part by Heather Henson's IBEX Puppetry.

The Acts and Artists

  • ROWBY

  • WOLFE & XOCHITL

Wolfe Bowart with SpoonTree Productions is a master of physical theatre.  Wolfe and partner, Xochitl Martinez apply their skills in physical theatre and imaginative storytelling to hand shadows, puppets, found objects, and surprising magic tricks.  They present an ongoing series of short vignettes throughout the Cabaret

  • ALEBRIJES

These magical ridiculous beautiful beasts known as ALEBRIJES will show off their psychedelic colors and fancy dance steps in blacklight.  These four-foot marionettes are created and performed by Red Herring Puppets with Lisa Sturz, Amelie Allen and Lily Sabath.

  • BAD DECISIONS

BAD DECISIONS is a musical revue of Supreme Court decisions that have impacted our country in dangerous ways. This insightful “re-singing” of historic rulings created by political economist Mark Blessington and puppeteer, Lisa Sturz is performed by Alicia Daimon, Amelie Allen,  Naima Boushaki,  Sarah MacMillan, Abby Dunscomb, Nathan Green and Joshua Hays Jr.

  • DATING A DARK LORD

Dennis  the Red (Dennis Eustace) and Laura the Red (Laura Craig) are presenting the game show, DATING A DARK LORD. Tiffany from Scottsdale is the featured contestant.

  • RECOVERY QUEEN

RECOVERY QUEEN is a playful and insightful response to healing from trauma. Actress Sarah MacMillan and comedian Courtney Tamara Cauthen collaborate on this “puppetic” presentation. As Sarah is hyping herself up for an upcoming project, her PTSD keeps trying to bring her down.

  • ASPIRING ALCOHOLIC

Joshua Hays Jr. with Si'emon Studios travels from Los Angeles with two original pieces. ASPIRING ALCOHOLIC features a young kid who wants to make something of his life, despite the hopeless rhetoric and negative thoughts around him. He is persistent in being an alcoholic, even if he knows nothing about alcohol.

  • YOU AND INFINITY

In this excerpt from the upcoming Tucson Fringe Festival Show  YOU AND INFINITY, University of Arizona astronomer Kevin Hainline, uses transparencies, shadowplay, and an overhead projector to explore the terror (and comfort) of the endlessness that awaits us. (Saturday and Sunday only)

  • KICKIN’ IT WITH CLEATUS

Nathan Greene and David Dupree with Phoenix-based Imaginology,  present their latest show, KICKIN’ IT WITH CLEATUS.

Cleatus is everyone's favorite, shitty, redneck neighbor. His humor and charisma is only surpassed by his lack of understanding in the world.  But no one minds; he's a friendly enough fella.

  • THE THREE SISTERS

THE THREE SISTERS,  created by Red Herring Puppet, explores a mysterious archetypal journey. Lily Sabath, Amelie Allen and Lisa Sturz portray the maiden, mother and crone as they sing of the feminine cycles of birth, life, death, and rebirth. Music by Michael Eagan.

  • BAKER’S MAN

BAKER’S MAN by Trogs Anonymous is a creation story for the ages, but not for all ages. May contain gluten.

Do you remember Tucson Puppet Works? They have SLAMMED back together, picked up a few tasty hand puppets and threw them into an oven to present this whimsical, comical, delicious cookie.
