Opening Act: Touring Theater

We’ll bring shows to your Tucson-area school!

Scoundrel & Scamp is excited to partner with the Community Foundation of Southern Arizona,
The Lewis Foundation, and the City of Tucson to
HELP STUDENTS DEVELOP A PASSION FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS.

Bring the excitement of live theater directly to your students! Just as in our theatre, these shows are performed by our highly-trained professional actors. We’re pleased to offer a variety of hour-long touring shows that will bring stories to life for students of all ages in the comfort and ease of your school. No busses, additional chaperones, or stress! We’re also happy to provide learning materials to accompany the show, creating a scaffolded learning experience that will keep students engaged and critically thinking!

Thanks to foundation and donor underwriting it is only $650 to bring a performance to your school, or
$950 to have two performances at your school on the same day.

The Friendly Chupacabra

Touring
February 20 through March 29, 2024

Red Herring Puppets’ The Friendly Chupacabra / El Chupacabras Simpático is the third show in the collection of bilingual folktales based on stories from Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. This anthology of folktales, which includes past shows “The Barking Mouse / El Ratón que Ladra” and “The Blue Frog / La Rana Azul”, is presented in a mixture of English and Spanish, celebrating Latino cultures and the importance of welcoming and learning from each other. Each story features original music by Diana Olivares and Salma Diaz, from Las Azaleas, an all-girl mariachi band based in Tucson.

The tale of The Friendly Chupacabra unfolds in Puerto Rico, where the strange and fierce Chupacabra elicits fear and wonder — until a brave girl, Ana, and her goat tame the beast with friendship.

Recommended for Pre-K through 5th grade

Runtime: Approximately 45 minutes.
